PowerStore: Node reboot due to orphaned python memory leak (OOM)

Summary: A PowerStore node may reboot due to a memory leak caused by internal processes.

Symptoms

  • A single node reboot, node should automatically recover upon reboot.
  • In some rare cases, if both nodes are affected by this issue simultaneously, a short service disruption may occur.
This issue only affects PowerStore appliances that are installed with a release earlier than PowerStoreOS 3.0.

Cause

Various PowerStore internal processes use Python. Due to a software issue some of the sub processes can become orphaned, and after a prolonged period may lead to a node panic.

This issue may increase over time as various internal processes, such as Data Collects, System Health Check, and PUHC, are the main contributors to this issue.

Resolution

This issue is fixed in PowerStoreOS 3.0.0 release and higher.
