Dell VxRail Architecture Overview

PDF

VxRail-managed VMware vCenter Server

During the VxRail build, deploy the VMware vCenter Server on the cluster or deploy the cluster on an existing VMware vCenter Server instance in your data center. You can also deploy a cluster using a VxRail-managed vCenter Server that resides on another VxRail cluster.

The option to deploy VMware vCenter Server on the cluster is known as VxRail-managed VMware vCenter Server. This means that VxRail Manager controls initial configuration and life cycle management. With this option, you have administrative access to all the management features and functionality that is supported by the VMware vCenter Server instance. With a VxRail-managed VMware vCenter Server, a license key is provided by VxRail, but a customer-provided license is also supported. The bundled license key can only be used for a VxRail cluster using VMware vSAN storage. A customer-provided license is required for VxRail dynamic node clusters.

The VxRail-managed VMware vCenter Server and VxRail Manager are deployed on the VxRail vCenter Server Network that is configured during the initial build process. The VMware vCenter Server network must be able to reach required external management personnel and data center services. For more information, see the VxRail Network Planning Guide.
