Inspiron All in One Desktop Does Not POST and the Power LED Blinks Two Amber and Four White Flashes

No POST power LED blinking two amber and four white

 

Inspiron 24 5420, 24 5421, and 27 7720 AIO owners may experience a no POST. The No POST diagnostic error that the power LED blinks is a two amber and four white repeated flash code: Memory or RAM failure error code

This can happen after you make one of the following hardware changes:

  • You replace or swap out the memory with Kingston 16 GB in Dual-Inline memory module (DIMM) slot 1. The swap includes changing the DIMM location with the Kingston 16 GB to DIMM slot 1.
  • This issue can occur if the Real-Time Clock (RTC) battery is unplugged and then reconnected.

Cause

The Engineering team has identified a memory training failure for Kingston 16 GB memory that you install in slot 1 of the motherboard.

Resolution

Note: You must have administrator rights on the device to make any operating system changes or update any software.

The Dell driver team has released a new BIOS driver on the Dell Support site to resolve this problem. You can use the following update instructions to update the BIOS:

  1. If your desktop is failing to POST, use one of the following methods to recover the desktop into the Windows operating system:

    • Method One:

      1. Unplug the adapters alternating current (AC) power cable.

      2. Plug the adapter cable back into the device.

      3. Press the power button to turn the desktop on. The desktop should successfully boot into the Windows operating system.

    • Method Two:

      1. Wait for over 30 seconds after the No POST error starts and the desktop restarts automatically and successfully boots into the Windows operating system.

  2. Update the BIOS driver to Dell Inspiron 7720, 5420, 5421 System BIOS, version 1.2.1 or newer. The instructions in the following Dell Knowledge Base article take you through downloading and installing the Inspiron_5420_5421_7720_1.2.1.exe:
