Removing the system board
Prerequisites
CAUTION:The information in this section is intended for authorized service technicians only.
- Follow the procedure in Before working inside your computer.
- Remove the SIM card tray (for computers with nano-SIM card option).
- Remove the base cover.
- Remove the battery.
- Remove the M.2 2230 solid-state drive.
- Remove the WWAN 4G card or WWAN 5G card.
- Remove the WLAN card.
- Remove the fan.
- Remove the heat sink.
About this task
NOTE:When removing the system board to replace/access other parts, the system board can be removed and installed with the heat sink attached to simplify the procedure and preserve the thermal bond between the system board and heat-sink.

Steps
- Remove the screw (M2x3) that secures the fingerprint reader metal bracket.
NOTE:Systems with non-fingerprint reader configuration do not have a fingerprint-reader bracket.
- Remove the fingerprint-reader bracket from the system.
- Remove the screw (M2x4) that secures the eDP bracket to the system board and lift it.
- Remove the three screws (M2x5) securing the USB Type-C bracket.
- Remove the USB Type-C port bracket.
- Disconnect the fingerprint-reader cable from the system board.
- Peel the conductive tape covering the eDP cable.
- Disconnect the eDP cable from the system board.
- Disconnect the touchpad cable from the system board.
- Disconnect the USH cable from the system board.
- Disconnect the speaker cable from the system board and peel off the tape that secures the speaker cable to the system board.
- Remove the screw (M2x4) that secures the system board to the palm-rest assembly.
- Remove the four screws (M2x3) that secures the system board to the palm-rest assembly.
- Lift the system board off the palm-rest assembly.
