Summary: In PowerProtect Data Manager version 19.20 and earlier, Critical Alert SYS0052 may be triggered when the Application Data Management (ADM) Service restarts unexpectedly. Symptoms

  • PowerProtect Data Manager UI displays:
Critical Alert SYS0052 - Application Data Management Service is restarting on host
Any requests sent to the ADM service during the restart may fail.
  • ADM logs show:
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
Heap dump generation
  • Agent service logs show:
File system task failure with excessively large error response payload
  • Subsequent scheduled jobs may fail during the ADM service restart window.

Cause

In certain file system protection job failures, the Agent returns an excessively large API response. Most of this size comes from the task’s error message. This oversized payload exhausts the ADM service’s memory, causing it to be unresponsive and restart.

Resolution

Fixed Version:
Upgrade to PowerProtect Data Manager 19.21, which resolves the memory handling issue.

Workaround (if upgrade is not immediately possible):
Enable debug logging for the affected file system protection policy to help identify and manage oversized error responses.
