Symptoms
The user is running IBM FlashCopy to copy several devices using the FlashCopy ACTION(FREEZE) function. The source devices are RDF R2 devices. When the FREEZE command is run, the devices are put in an extended long busy state to prevent I/O to the devices and ensure that the copy is consistent. Once the copy is complete, the FlashCopy ACTION(THAW) command is run to release the extended long busy on the devices and resume the I/O. The THAW command is failing with the following error:
The issue also occurs if the source device is a PPRC secondary device but the error that is returned is slightly different;

The PowerMax Microcode is 5978.669.669.
Cause
This is a microcode issue. Currently, the microcode does not allow a FlashCopy Thaw command on a PPRC Secondary/R2 device.
Resolution
Engineering has developed fix 108159 to correct this issue. Contact the Dell EMC Support Center or your local Dell EMC Service representative to determine if a HYPERMAX OS, or PowerMaxOS upgrade is appropriate for your environment. Quote this article number.
