Attaching the stand

CAUTION: Do not remove the monitor from the packaging box before attaching the stand.

Ergonomics

Where you put your monitor is almost as important as what model you buy.

  • The monitor must be directly in front of you, at an arm’s length away (between 20-40 inches from your eyes).
  • The top edge of the screen must be set at eye level when you are sitting comfortably. Adjust your chair height or the height of the monitor to achieve this.

Connecting your monitor to the computer

To connect your Dell P2424HT monitor to your computer:

NOTE: Dell P2424HT supports display over USB-C port with Alternate mode DP 1.4. Ensure that the USB-C port on your computer supports Alternate mode DP 1.2 or above.
  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Connect the power cable to the monitor.
  3. Connect the video cable (USB-C, DisplayPort, or HDMI) between the computer and the monitor.

  4. Connect the USB upstream cable between the monitor and computer (if available).
  5. Turn on the monitor.
  6. Turn on the computer.

Dell P2424HT monitor orientation must always be in landscape mode. This includes any wall-mounted monitors, monitors on a stand, or a monitor arm. In a multiple monitor setup, the Dell P2424HT must not be rotated either to 180° (landscape) or 90° (portrait).

CAUTION: Dell P2424HT setup must comply with the recommended panel orientation and working angle only. Setting up the monitor in an orientation that is not recommended may damage the monitor, cause a safety hazard, or both.

Using the Tilt, Swivel and Slant

WARNING: Do not rotate the monitor to 180° (landscape). Do not set the monitor orientation at 90° (portrait).
NOTE: This is applicable for a monitor with a stand. For other stands, see the respective stand setup guide.

Tilt

With the stand attached to the monitor, you can tilt the monitor for the most comfortable viewing angle and working angle for touch input.

Using the joystick control

Use the joystick control on the rear of the monitor to make On-Screen Display (OSD) adjustments.

  1. Press the joystick to launch the Menu Launcher.
  2. Move the joystick up/down/left/right to switch between options.
  3. Press the joystick again to confirm the selection.

Accessing the Menu Launcher

When you switch or press the joystick, the Menu Launcher appears to let you access the OSD main menu and shortcut functions.

NOTE: The monitor automatically saves any changes that you make. Whenever you move to another menu item, exit the OSD menu, or wait for the OSD menu to automatically close.

To select a function, move the joystick.

Resetting a monitor to factory defaults can help resolve many video or display-related issues. Reset your Dell P2424HT monitor to factory default settings by following these steps:

  1. Press the joystick on the monitor to enter the On-Screen Display (OSD) Menu.
  2. Press up or down on the joystick to highlight Other options in the menu and press on the joystick to select.
  3. Press up or down to highlight Factory Reset option in the menu and press on the joystick to select it.
  4. Press the joystick to confirm the reset action.

A diagnostic test helps determine if the Dell monitor is normal when faced with a blank screen, blurry image, flickering or other abnormalities.

Verify that the monitor is working correctly by running a diagnostic test if you experience the following symptoms.

  • Your computer does not turn on or shows any sign of power.
  • Your computer does not show any indication of activity, the screen is blank and does not display the Dell logo during start-up.
  • Your computer gets stuck at the Dell logo screen or does not respond to any keys during start-up.
  • You cannot see any display on the screen.
  • You hear the windows chime, but the monitor screen is blank.

Self-Test Feature Check

Your Dell P2424HT monitor provides a self-test feature check that allows you to check if the monitor is functioning properly. When the monitor is connected to the computer but the screen stays dark, run the monitor self-test by following these steps:

  1. Turn off the computer and the monitor.
  2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer. To ensure proper self-test operation, disconnect the video cable (VGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, or USB-C cable) from the back of the computer.
  3. Turn on the monitor. A floating dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background), if the monitor cannot sense a video signal and is working correctly. While in self-test mode, the power LED remains white. Also, depending upon the selected input, the dialog box will continuously scroll through the screen.
  4. This box also appears during normal system operation, if the video cable becomes disconnected or damaged.
  5. Turn off the monitor and reconnect the video cable.
  6. Turn on the computer and the monitor.

If the screen remains blank, check the video card (GPU) and computer, because the monitor is functioning properly.

Built-In Self-Test or Built-In Diagnostics

Your monitor has a built-in diagnostic tool that helps you determine if any screen abnormality you experience is an inherent problem with your monitor, or with your computer and video card.

To run the built-in diagnostics:

  1. Ensure that the screen is clean (no dust particles on the surface of the screen).
  2. Press the Joystick button to launch the OSD Menu Launcher and move the Joystick up to open Main Menu.
  3. Move the Joystick to select Others > Self-Diagnostic to initiate the selfdiagnostic process.
  4. When initiated, a gray screen appears. Inspect the screen for abnormalities.
  5. Toggle the Joystick. The color of the screen changes to red. Inspect the screen for abnormalities.
  6. Repeat step 5 to inspect the display in green, blue, black, white, and text screens.
  7. The test is complete when the text screen appears. To exit, switch the Joystick again.

If you do not detect any screen abnormalities in the diagnostics test, the monitor is functioning properly. Check the video card (GPU) and the computer.

Geometric Distortion The screen not centered correctly.

Image Retention from a Static Image Left on the Monitor for a Long Period A faint shadow from the static image appears on the screen.
  • Set the screen to turn off after a few minutes of screen idle time. These can be adjusted in the Windows Power Options or Mac Energy Saver setting.
  • Alternatively, use a dynamically changing screensaver.
The screen image is too small. The image is centered on the screen, but does not fill the entire viewing area.
Cannot adjust the monitor with the joystick. OSD does not appear on the screen.
  • Turn Off the monitor, unplug the power cable, plug it back, and then turn On the monitor.
  • Check whether the OSD menu is locked. If yes, move and hold the joystick up/down/left/right for 4 seconds to unlock.
No Input Signal when user controls are pressed. No picture, the power LED light is white.
  • Check the signal source. Ensure that the computer is not in power-saving mode by moving the mouse or pressing any key on the keyboard.
  • Connect the video cable securely between the monitor and the computer.
  • Restart the computer.
The picture does not fill the entire screen. The picture cannot fill the height or width of the screen.
No video at HDMI/DisplayPort/USB-C port When connected to some dongle/ docking device at the port, there is no video when unplugging/plugging the cable from the laptop
  1. Unplug the HDMI/DisplayPort/USB-C cable from dongle/docking device, then plug the docking HDMI/DisplayPort/USB-C cable to the laptop.

  • Ensure that the latest BIOS and drivers for your computer are installed on your computer.
  • Ensure that the RealTek Gigabit Ethernet Controller is installed in the Windows Device Manager.
  • If your BIOS Setup has a LAN/GBE Enabled/Disabled option, make sure it is set to Enabled.
  • Ensure that the Ethernet cable is connected securely on the monitor and the hub/router/firewall.
  • Check the status LED of the Ethernet cable to confirm connectivity. Reconnect both ends of the Ethernet cable if the LED is not lit.
  • First power off the computer and unplug the USB-C cable and the power cable from the monitor. Then, power on the computer and plug the power cable and the USB-C cable into the monitor.
Touch report error. Touch function miss alignment or no touch function.
  • Use the Dell provided USB cable to connect your computer.
  • Make sure the power cable has a ground pin.
  • Unplug and replug the power cable from the power adapter to allow autorecalibration of the touch module.
  • Make sure computer supports USB 2.0 or later.
  • If the display cannot be detected by the computer, power off/on the monitor or unplug and replug the USB cable.
Touchscreen nonresponsive in standby mode. Touchscreen nonresponsive in standby mode
  1. Access Device Manager, expand HID Interface Device under Human Device.
  2. Right-click HID-compliant device, click Properties and select the check-box to allow the device to wake the computer.
Windows 8, Windows 8.1 Windows 10 and Windows 11 Calibration The cursor does not accurately follow your finger when you touch the screen.
  1. Open the Control Panel, open Hardware and Sound, and then open Tablet PC Settings.
  2. Select Calibration.
  3. Follow the instructions to recalibrate your screen.

  • Reconnect the upstream cable to your computer.
  • Reconnect the USB devices (downstream connector).
  • Reboot the computer.
Wireless USB devices stop working when a USB 3.2 device is plugged in. Wireless USB devices responding slowly or only working as the distance between itself and its receiver decreases.
  • Increase the distance between the USB 3.2 devices and the wireless USB receiver.
  • Position your wireless USB receiver as close as possible to the wireless USB devices.
  • Use a USB-extender cable to position the wireless USB receiver as far away as possible from the USB 3.2 port.
USB-C port does not supply power. USB devices cannot be charged.
  • Check that the connected device is compliant with the USB-C specification. The USB-C port supports USB 3.2 Gen1 and an output of 90 W.
  • Ensure you use the USB-C cable shipped with your monitor.

Using Windows Display Settings

In Windows 11, Windows 10, Windows 8 or 8.1, and Windows 7:

  1. For Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 only, select the Desktop tile to switch to the classic desktop view.
  2. Right-click the desktop and click Screen Resolution.
  3. Click the dropdown list of the Screen Resolution and select 1920 x 1080.
  4. Click OK.

Using Nvidia Control Panel

To change the resolution using the Nvidia Control Panel:

  1. Right-click the desktop and click Nvidia Control Panel.
  2. Click the + symbol next to Display on the left pane.
  3. Select Change Resolution under Display.
  4. In the dropdown menu on the right pane, select the resolution 1920 x 1080.
  5. Click Apply.

Using AMD Catalyst Control Center

To change the resolution using the AMD Catalyst Control Center:

  1. Right-click the desktop and click AMD Catalyst Control Center.
  2. Click the + symbol next to Display on the left pane.
  3. Select Change Resolution under Display.
  4. In the dropdown menu on the right pane, select the resolution 1920 x 1080.
  5. Click Apply.
