PowerScale OneFS 9.8.0.0 Web Administration Guide

Networking overview

After you determine the topology of your network, you can set up and manage your internal and external networks.

There are two types of networks on a cluster:

Internal
Generation 5 nodes communicate with each other using a high-speed, low latency InfiniBand network. Generation 6 nodes support using InfiniBand or Ethernet for the internal network. PowerScale F200 and F600 nodes support only Ethernet as the backend network. You can optionally configure a second InfiniBand network to enable failover for redundancy.
External
Clients connect to the cluster through the external network with Ethernet. The PowerScale cluster supports standard network communication protocols, including NFS, SMB, HDFS, HTTP, and FTP. The cluster includes various external Ethernet connections, providing flexibility for a wide variety of network configurations.
