Dell VNX: How to configure Call Home on a VNX Block-Only (Unisphere)

Instructions

  1. Select the Array.

  2. Click the System tab at the top of the screen
    System task menu

  3. Under Service Tasks select Manage ConnectEMC in the lower right-hand corner.

  4. Input the following information

    • Email Priority: Primary
    • Email Server(SMTP): Secure Remote Services GW IP or Customers SMTP
    • Subject: CallHome Alert
    • Recipient Address: emailalert@emc.com
    • Sender Email Address: xyz@companydomain.com
  5. Apply changes (This takes about a minute)

  6. Template 7.33.0.11 should be created or applied

Next, input the customers' information into the newly created template.

  1. Hover over the System tab

  2. Monitoring and Alerts Select -> Notifications

  3. Click the Notification Templates tab

  4. Go into Engineering mode [CNTL+SHFT_F12] and input the Engineering password.

  5. Right click template 7.33.0.11 and select Properties

  6. Ensure that Explicit Events are checked and Combine Events for Storage System is checked.

  7. Click the E-mail tab and input the customer's information

    • Email to: (Customers email)
    • From: (Email address on THEIR DOMAIN)
    • SMTP: THEIR SMTP IP
    • Subject: (Customer can choose this)
  8. Click Default Message at the bottom of the template

  9. Apply the changes and click ok.

To perform a Test Event to Dell Technologies and the customer, do the following steps:

  1. Click the Distributed Monitors Tab

  2. Hold down CNTRL and select SPA and SPB.

  3. Right-click SPA and select Send Test Event.

  4. Ensure that the customer received the email.

 

Additional Information

VNX Block-only system running code .215 or later will email directly from the SP over the Secure Remote Services Gateway. Secure Remote Services Gateway uses ConnectEMC to send back call-home alerts. If you are in a WebEx with the customer, you can configure Dell and their information over Unisphere.
