Dell EMC Solutions Enabler 9.2 SRDF Family CLI User Guide

Additional SRDF/Metro Smart DR operations

DSE

For a Smart DR configuration, it is recommended that DSE is set to autostart on both the MetroR1 to DR and MetroR2 to DR RDF groups. Autostart is enabled by default when an SRDF group is created.

To set DSE on both sides, use:
symrdf -sid -rdfg set rdfa_dse -both_sides
To set DSE autostart, use:
symrdf -sid -rdfg set rdfa_dse -autostart enable

If users do not want DSE, it can be disabled using the symrdf deactivate command.

Minimum cycle time

When creating an SRDF/Metro Smart DRenvironment, the minimum cycle time that exists on the MetroR1 to DR SRDF group at the time of executing the symmdr env -setup command is copied to the MetroR2 to DR SRDF group.

It is recommended to use the symrdf -sid -rdfg set rdfa -cycle_time -both_sides command to both the MetroR1 to DR, and the MetroR2 to DR SRDF groups if you need to adjust the minimum cycle time after the Smart DR environment is set up. This ensures that if PowerMaxOS switches the data transfer to the other side, the minimum cycle time remains the same.

Checkpoint

To identify when the data in the current cycle on the MetroR1 is committed on the DR site, use the symrdf checkpoint command.

Typically the MetroR1 to DR SRDF/A session is responsible for transferring the SRDF/A cycles therefore the symrdf –sid –rdfg checkpoint command should be run on the MetroR1 to DR devices.

Although it is possible to run the symrdf checkpoint command on the MetroR2 to DR devices, since this side is not transferring the SRDF/A cycle, it is recommended to not rely on information gathered this way.
