Establish for the DR session

About this task

An establish makes the devices in the DR session RW on the SRDF link and initiates an incremental re-synchronization of data from the SRDF/Metro array to the DR array. While the re-synchronization is ongoing the DR state is SyncInProg and the copy direction is SRDF/Metro –>DR.

Figure 1. Establish for the DR session

When DR mode is async:

Once the establish command completes successfully:
  • the MetroR1 becomes or remains accessible to the host
  • the DR is Write Disabled (WD) to the host
  • the MetroR2 state is dependent on the SRDF/Metro session state:
    • if the SRDF/Metro state is ActiveActive, the MetroR2 remains accessible to the host
    • if the SRDF/Metro state is SyncInProg or Suspended, the MetroR2 remains inaccessible to the host
    • if the SRDF/Metro state is ActiveActive or SyncInProg and if the DR link state is Online
      • DR Service state is Active
  • if the SRDF/Metro state is ActiveActive or SyncInProg and if the DR link state is MetroR1 DR Offline or MetroR2 DR Offline, a -force flag is required, resulting in a DR Service state of Degraded
  • if the SRDF/Metro state is Suspended or Partitioned, the DR Service state is Active
  • once the DR contains a dependent-write consistent copy of data the DR state is Consistent and copy direction is SRDF/Metro –>DR

When DR mode is Acp_disk:

Once the establish command completes:
  • the DR Service state is Active
  • once the DR contains the same data as the MetroR1, the DR state is Synchronized and copy direction is SRDF/Metro –> DR

Example

The following example shows the result of the symmdr –sid 702 –name metrodr1 establish –dr command on array 702 when the SRDF/Metro state is Suspended, the DR state is Consistent and DR mode is Asynchronous:
symmdr –sid 702 –name metrodr1 establish –dr
