Remove an SRDF/Metro Smart DR environment

About this task

To remove an SRDF/Metro Smart DR environment, use the symmdr environment -remove command. The end result is a CRDF setup with one mirror that is an SRDF/Metro session and one mirror that is the DR, that is either an SRDF/A session or in adaptive copy disk mode.

When removing a SRDF/Metro Smart DR environment, users can choose to keep the DR that originates from either the MetroR1 side or the MetroR2 side.

If the SRDF/Metro state is ActiveActive and the DR leg being removed is the MetroR1 to DR, the existence of the other DR leg results in the SRDF/Metro witness to prefer the side with the DR. After completing a Smart DR environment removal, the MetroR2 that was configured for Smart DR is reported as MetroR1.

The successful removal of an SRDF/Metro Smart DR environment results in the following:
  • the state of the SRDF/Metro session does not change
  • the state of the SRDF/Metro Smart DR session does not change (unless a -force option is required)
  • if the DR mode is Asynchronous at the time of issuing the symmdr env -remove command, the devices remain enabled.
Using the -force option is required for removing a SRDF/Metro Smart DR environment when:
  • the SRDF/Metro state is SyncInProg or ActiveActive, and
  • the DR state is Synchronized, SyncInProg, or Consistent, and
  • MetroR2_DR is Suspended and the MetroR1_DR is being removed.

Syntax

symmdr -sid <ArrayID> -name <EnvironmentName>
       -dr_rdfg <RDFGroup>

       environment -remove

Example

Example 1: DR leg remaining on MetroR1

  1. Use the symmdr -sid 048 -name Alaska query command to see details of the Alaska Smart DR environment before its removal. The SRDF/Metro pair is Suspended.
