Dell EMC Solutions Enabler 9.2 SRDF Family CLI User Guide

Set up an SRDF/Metro Smart DR environment

About this task

An environment setup is required to configure an SRDF/Metro Smart DR environment.

When the environment setup successfully completes, it includes a second DR leg that allows Smart DR to couple SRDF/A sessions running in the two DR legs so that it can maintain a write-consistent copy of the data at the DR site no matter which side of the SRDF/Metro session might experience a failure.

The successful environment setup results in the following:
  • The state of the SRDF/Metro or DR session do not change. For example, if the SRDF pair state of the SRDF/Metro session is ActiveActive and the SRDF mode of the DR session is Adaptive Copy disk and the SRDF pair state of the DR session is Synchronized, the states of these SRDF pairs will remain the same after the setup command.
  • When the existing DR SRDF pairs are in Asynchronous SRDF mode, both the MetroR1 to DR and the MetroR2 to DR are enabled.
  • If the SRDF/Metro session is active, the setup adjusts the newly created SRDF mirror from the MetroR2 array to the DR array so that it mimics the state of the existing DR. For example, if the SRDF pair state of DR is Consistent, the SRDF pairs between the MetroR2 array and DR array will be RW on the SRDF link after the setup command completes.
  • The MetroR2 to DR minimum cycle time is the same as that on the MetroR1 to DR side.

Syntax

symmdr -sid <ArrayID> -name <EnvironmentName>
       -metro_rdfg <RDFGroup> -dr_rdfg <RDFGroup>
       environment -setup

Steps

Example:

Use the symmdr environment -setup command to set up a SRDF/Metro Smart DR environment.

The following example shows the result of the symmdr –sid 56 –name metrodr1 –metro_rdfg 119 –dr_rdfg 76 env –setup command when the SRDF/Metro pair state is ActiveActive, the DR SRDF pair state is Consistent and the DR mode is Asynchronous, where:

  • -sid 56: specifies the ID of the MetroR2 array, as the setup is always directed at the MetroR2 side of the SRDF/Metro session.
  • –name metrodr1: specifies the unique name that identifies the SRDF/Metro Smart DR environment on all three arrays
  • –metro_rdfg 119: specifies the Metro R2 SRDF group on the array specified by -sid, that participates in the SRDF/Metro Smart DR environment.
  • –dr_rdfg 76: represents the DR SRDF group that should be used to pair SRDF/Metro devices with DR devices.

The MetroDR 'Environment Setup' operation successfully executed
for 'metrodr1'.
As a result, the "metrodr1" SRDF/Metro Smart DR environment is created.
