Dell monitors connected to the DisplayPort (DP) on the system board of OptiPlex computers listed below may not display video. This happens when the monitor is turned on and after the system is powered up.
Affected OptiPlex Computers:
This is working as designed. The Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Graphics Output Protocol (GOP) requires the monitor to get the Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) data first. Once the data is received, it will output video to the monitor.
It is expected behavior where the design of hot plug detection follows the UEFI GOP and DP standard.
The workaround for this behavior is to power on the monitor first and then power on the system to ensure that the monitor can be detected.
