Samsung PM9F1 SSD is Not Detected

Symptoms

Computers with the Samsung PM9F1 SSD may encounter a blue screen error or an error message indicating that the SSD is not detected. There are different error messages that can be presented.

Note: When this issue occurs, the computer does not recover after rebooting. Even after multiple attempts to restart, the computer remains inoperable and either continues to display the error message that the SSD is not detected or fails to boot into the operating system.

Cause

The SSD is not being recognized because of a brief power surge that caused an error in its memory. This error is preventing the SSD from functioning properly and cannot be recovered.

Resolution

Updating the firmware of the Samsung PM9F1 solid state drive (SSD) helps prevent further inconsistencies with the SSD detection.

To identify the part number of the hard drive in your computer, refer to How to Check the System Configuration on Your Dell Computer.

  • For part numbers 4JY3N (1 TB) and 7818M (2 TB), update to Samsung PM9F1 Solid State Drive firmware version 7732.0409.
  • For part numbers 24YVF (1 TB) and WGDX1 (2 TB), update to Samsung PM9F1 Solid State Drive firmware version 7732.0459.
Note: Before starting the update, perform the following:
  • Back up all personal data. For more information, refer to Back Up and Recovery.
  • Connect the AC adapter if updates are being run on a laptop.
  • Ensure that power remains connected if updates are being run on a desktop.
