Preparation for adding components to a system

Prepare items required for adding components to an existing Linux-based PowerFlex system.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure that the new nodes meet the requirements listed in "Deployment checklist-Linux"
  • Prepare new nodes that are based on SLES, Oracle Linux and Ubuntu as described in the "Preparation for deployment" section
  • For new Fine Granularity Storage Pool hosts, prepare their NVDIMMs as DAX devices, as described in the "Preparation for deployment" section
  • Ensure that you have the CSV file that was used to deploy the existing PowerFlex system.
  • The secure communication mode of components must match the mode of the system to which the components are being added. If they do not match, you must either change the mode of the components to be added, or change the mode of the system so that they match.

About this task

Add and configure new components to existing or new servers using this method, but do not edit or remove existing components or configurations, such as storage devices, acceleration devices, Protection Domains, or MDM roles.

These procedures can also be used to add and configure new Storage Pools. However, do not modify or remove existing Storage Pools.

Steps

  1. Make a copy of the CSV configuration file.
  2. Add the details of the new components and Storage Pools to the CSV file.
For information about the fields in the CSV file, see "Prepare the CSV file."
  3. Save the CSV file for future use.
