Prepare server operating systems for support of large-scale systems (up to 2048 SDCs)

For large-scale systems with up to 2048 SDCs, prepare the operating systems of servers that will host MDM, SDS, SDR, and PowerFlex Gateway components.

Prerequisites

Superuser permissions are required for this procedure.

About this task

Configuration of servers hosting MDM, SDS, SDR, and PowerFlex Gateway components is required, in order to support large-scale systems with up to 2048 SDCs.
  • A system setting must be validated and configured on servers hosting MDM, SDS, SDR, and the PowerFlex Gateway.
  • For all servers hosting MDM, SDS, and SDR components, certain threshold parameters must be configured. This change enables a larger number of records in the operating system's ARP Cache table.

Steps

  1. On servers hosting MDM, SDS, SDR, or PowerFlex Gateway components, do the following:
    1. Run this command:
      cat /proc/sys/fs/file-max
      The output for the command is the number of files that can be opened by the operating system.
    2. If the number is 24576 or higher, go to step 2. If the number is less than 24576, go to the next sub-step.
    3. Open the file /etc/sysctl.conf using vi.
    4. If the following line exists, edit it with vi. If it does not exist, add the full line with the following setting:
      fs.file-max = 24576
  2. On servers hosting MDM, SDS, or SDR components, if the following lines exist in the file /etc/sysctl.conf, edit them with vi. If they do not exist, add the full lines with the following settings:
    net.ipv4.neigh.default.gc_thresh1 = 8192
    net.ipv4.neigh.default.gc_thresh2 = 16384
    net.ipv4.neigh.default.gc_thresh3 = 32768
  3. Save the file.
  4. Apply the changes using the command:
    sysctl -p
  5. Repeat this procedure on the next server, until all servers are configured.
