Installing the serial COM port

Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions.
Follow the procedure listed in Before working inside your system.
Lift the expansion card riser and disconnect the serial COM port cable from the connector on the rear I/O board.

If installed, remove the filler bracket from the expansion card riser (Riser 3).
NOTE:For more information about how to remove the filler bracket, see the Removing the expansion card from the expansion card riser topic.
NOTE:Store the filler bracket for future use. Filler brackets must be installed in empty expansion card slots to maintain Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certification of the system. The brackets also keep dust and dirt out of the system and aid in proper cooling and airflow inside the system.

Slide the serial COM port into the expansion card riser.
Connect the serial COM port cable to the serial port.
Close the expansion card retention latch.
Connect the serial COM port cable to the connector on the rear I/O board.
