Dell NetWorker 19.9 Administration Guide

Backup Twinning

Backup twinning helps NetWorker backup routine to simultaneously backup to multiple devices. NetWorker save operations reads client data once and writes it to two or more DDBoost devices at the same time, simultaneously. This requires at least two different DDBoost devices to have volumes mounted from two different volume pools. The result of this twinning is that you can independently backup copies (save sets) on different DDBoost devices. You can restore data from any copy after backup session is completed.

Since Backup twinning is a clone of an in-progress backup, only one SSID is generated per backup session. Once the backup twinning completes, N number of clone ID's are generated for a single SSID. N stands for number of pools in the action.

It is supported for server initiated and for client initiated backup. Once the twinning action is created or configured, you can initiate backup from Server through Policy-Workflow-Action framework. Client initiated backup can be achieved using -p option in save command. For more usage of this option refer to NetWorker Command Reference Guide.

Backup twinning can be performed by using a Remote Storage Node.
